China grass halwa

CHINA GRASS HALWA



China grass halwa is an Indian dessert made from milk. It has jelly like texture flavoured with cardamom, rose syrup and dry fruits.
It is generally prepared in diffrent states across India on different occasions like diwali , ramzan , etc.
The main ingredient in this recipe is china grass (agar agar) which is a kind of sea weed. It is generally used for preparing jellies and puddings. It is available either in form of strands or powder.

Ingredients : 
China grass      5 grams
Milk                   500 ml
Sugar                 3/4 cup
Rose essence    3-4 drops
Cardamom        1/2 tsp
Mix dry nuts     3 tbs
(Almonds , pistachios coarsely crushed)
Water                  1/2 cup


Method :
1) start boiling milk in one pan side by side in another vessel dissolve china grass in water at slow flame
2) once the milk comes to boil add sugar and allow the sugar to dissolve.
3) now add the china grass mix into milk and boil untill it starts to thicken.
4) once it starts getting thick add half of the cardamom powder , rose essence( u can also use rose syrup) and switch off the flame.
5) remove the mix in a greased mould.
6) allow it to cool at room temp. and then sprinkle the remaining  cardamom powder and mix nuts. Now place the mould in refrigerator till it sets completely.
 Serve by cutting it into small square or diamond shaped pieces.
